01. Tacking

  • How to catch your horse and tie them up: Grab your halter and put the big hole in the middle around the horse’s nose, then pull the tying loop up to the chin and throw the rope around their neck. Put the rope through the hole then tighten. Pull the rope under the side of the halter and make a loop and pull it through the loop.
  • How to put on your saddle pad and saddle: Grab the saddle and saddle pad. Position the top of the Saddle pad on the horse between the beginning of the spine and beginning of the neck. Take your saddle and walk over to the right side of the horse, swing the saddle up onto the saddle pad with the frill on the back facing towards the tail. There are many different saddles, the steps that I am going through are relevant to my type of saddle and ones like mine. Take the girth underneath and pull it through the loop on the bottom of the breastplate. Buckle it under the left side saddle flap by pulling it through the hole and pulling up, hold it up with one hand and put the belt buckle pin through the hole. Move up to the breast of the horse and pull the leather stip through the buckle and fasten it.
  • How to put on your Bridle Grab your Bridle and take off the lead rope. Grab the top of the bridle and the bit, then open the horse’s mouth by sticking your thumb in the corner of their mouth and pull the bit to the back of the mouth and place the top of the bridle over the horse’s ears.
