Forensic Science: Junior Detective Lab — Hands-On Mystery Solving

Forensic Science: Junior Detective Lab is one of the camps families ask about when they want something more than “keep my kid busy.” It’s hands-on, project-based, and built for kids who learn best by doing. We offer camp experiences across Central Texas and Tampa, FL, with age group groupings that make it easy to find the right fit: Discovery (younger learners), Explorers (elementary/middle), and Pathfinders (teens).

What is Forensic Science: Junior Detective Lab?

Calling all young detectives. In Junior Detective Lab, campers step into crime scene investigation using age-appropriate tools and real scientific thinking. They learn how evidence is collected, documented, and analyzed, then use chemistry, biology, and physics concepts to solve mysteries across the week.

Best fit: Ages 8–12 | Explorers. If your child loves building, creating, experimenting, and talking through ideas out loud, they’ll feel at home here.

Camp highlights

  • Mock crime scene investigation with careful observation and documentation.
  • Hands-on labs using evidence-style testing and analysis.
  • Logic and reasoning practice: connect clues, test theories, and revise conclusions.
  • Collaborative casework that builds teamwork and confidence.

A peek inside the week

Every location has its own rhythm, but the learning arc stays consistent: launch the day with a question, build and test, reflect, then iterate. Here’s a typical flow you can expect:

  • Scene setup and investigation basics: observation, notes, and evidence handling.
  • Lab days: analyze clues and test hypotheses.
  • Case-building: connect evidence, rule out possibilities, and explain reasoning.
  • Final case: present conclusions and show how the evidence supports them.

What your child practices (without it feeling like school)

  • Scientific thinking: observe, test, analyze, and explain.
  • Attention to detail and careful documentation.
  • Team collaboration and communication.
  • Confidence speaking about evidence and reasoning.

Why parents choose this camp

Families tell us they’re looking for a camp where their child is engaged, supported, and proud of what they create. We build the week around student agency with clear guardrails: kids help set the rules, practice collaboration, and have a peaceful way to resolve disagreements. That combination keeps the room calm and productive while still giving kids real freedom to create.

Is this the right fit for my child?

This camp tends to be a great match for:

  • Kids who love mysteries, puzzles, and ‘why’ questions.
  • Students who enjoy science when it’s connected to a real story.
  • Learners who thrive in collaborative, hands-on labs.
