Insect Investigators — Discovery Camp for Curious Little Explorers

Discovery Camp: Insect Investigators is one of the camps families ask about when they want something more than “keep my kid busy.” It’s hands-on, project-based, and built for kids who learn best by doing. We offer camp experiences across Tampa, FL and Central Texas, with age group groupings that make it easy to find the right fit: Discovery (younger learners), Explorers (elementary/middle), and Pathfinders (teens).

What is Discovery Camp: Insect Investigators?

Insect Investigators is a nature-focused Discovery camp where kids explore the tiny world with big impact. Campers observe bugs and plants, build simple habitats, create insect-themed art, and learn how pollinators help the world around us. It’s active, hands-on, and perfect for younger learners who love outdoor discovery.

Best fit: Ages 5–8 | Discovery. If your child loves building, creating, experimenting, and talking through ideas out loud, they’ll feel at home here.

Camp highlights

  • Outdoor exploration and bug scavenger hunts with guided observation.
  • Hands-on habitat and shelter builds using natural and recycled materials.
  • Insect-themed art and creative projects that connect learning to play.
  • Pollinator learning: simple activities like ‘bee hotels’ and habitat discussions.

A peek inside the week

Every location has its own rhythm, but the learning arc stays consistent: launch the day with a question, build and test, reflect, then iterate. Here’s a typical flow you can expect:

  • Daily nature walks and observation time with kid-friendly science prompts.
  • Build-and-create labs: habitats, shelters, and insect art projects.
  • Team games and movement built into the day for younger learners.
  • End-of-week share where campers show favorite discoveries.

What your child practices (without it feeling like school)

  • Curiosity and observation.
  • Early science thinking: notice, compare, and describe.
  • Fine motor skills through crafts and building.
  • Social skills and teamwork.

Why parents choose this camp

Families tell us they’re looking for a camp where their child is engaged, supported, and proud of what they create. We build the week around student agency with clear guardrails: kids help set the rules, practice collaboration, and have a peaceful way to resolve disagreements. That combination keeps the room calm and productive while still giving kids real freedom to create.

Is this the right fit for my child?

This camp tends to be a great match for:

  • Young kids who love nature, animals, and outdoor play.
  • Families who want a gentle first camp experience with structure.
  • Kids who learn best by exploring and moving.
