LEGO® Robotics: Battle Bots — Build, Program, and Compete
LEGO® Robotics: Battle Bots is one of the camps families ask about when they want something more than “keep my kid busy.” It’s hands-on, project-based, and built for kids who learn best by doing. We offer camp experiences across Central Texas and the Tampa, FL area, with age group groupings that make it easy to find the right fit: Discovery (younger learners), Explorers (elementary/middle), and Pathfinders (teens).
What is LEGO® Robotics: Battle Bots?
Get ready to build, program, and battle. In Battle Bots, campers design and build motorized robots with mechanical features like lifts, ramps, and strategic attachments. Teams test their designs through practice matches, analyze what worked, then reconfigure and improve their bots for the next round. It’s high-energy engineering with real problem-solving built in.
Best fit: Ages 9–14 | Explorers. If your child loves building, creating, experimenting, and talking through ideas out loud, they’ll feel at home here.
Camp highlights
- Custom robot design: campers engineer unique features and attachments for specialized challenges.
- Hands-on building: construct sturdy builds that can handle real match play.
- Strategy and iteration: test, adjust, and re-build based on performance and feedback.
- Team competition: learn sportsmanship, communication, and leadership during matches.
A peek inside the week
Every location has its own rhythm, but the learning arc stays consistent: launch the day with a question, build and test, reflect, then iterate. Here’s a typical flow you can expect:
- Day 1–2: build basics, drivetrain choices, and first test runs.
- Day 3: attachments and upgrades—lift, push, block, and defend.
- Day 4: strategy labs—practice battles, scouting, and revisions.
- Day 5: tournament-style showcase with time for final improvements.
What your child practices (without it feeling like school)
- Mechanical engineering concepts: stability, torque, gearing, and durability.
- Coding and control logic (as appropriate for the kit and age group).
- Design thinking: prototype, test, iterate, and document changes.
- Collaboration: roles, communication, and decision-making under pressure.
Why parents choose this camp
Families tell us they’re looking for a camp where their child is engaged, supported, and proud of what they create. We build the week around student agency with clear guardrails: kids help set the rules, practice collaboration, and have a peaceful way to resolve disagreements. That combination keeps the room calm and productive while still giving kids real freedom to create.
Is this the right fit for my child?
This camp tends to be a great match for:
- Kids who love friendly competition and want a purpose for building.
- Students who like taking things apart and improving designs.
- Learners who gain confidence when they can test ideas quickly.
