Our Story
ESTEAM Learning Labs grew from founder-led educational work into a broader learning community serving families through camps, schools, partner programs, and educational entrepreneurship support.
Acton becomes ESTEAM Academy
The school vision expanded into a stronger science, technology, engineering, arts, and math focus with project-based learning at the center.
ESTEAM Learning Labs launches
JoAnn Nolte’s Learning Fun 101 work and Nicholle Walton-Durban’s creative education leadership came together under the ESTEAM Learning Labs brand.
The FIRE Foundation begins
Mission-driven work continued growing through educational leadership, community support, and learner-centered initiatives.
ESTEAM EDU expands
The broader organization continued to grow through microschools, enrichment programs, and expansion into Florida, including growth connected to Apollo Academy, Florida-based ESTEAM Learning Labs programming, and partner locations.
Camp Mentor launches
JoAnn Nolte’s Camp Mentor added another layer to the ecosystem by supporting educational entrepreneurs, program development, and mission-aligned growth.

Meet the Founders
ESTEAM Learning Labs was shaped by two founders with different backgrounds and one shared commitment to meaningful learning.
JoAnn Nolte
Co-Founder
Director of Operations, ESTEAM Learning Labs
JoAnn Nolte is an educator, entrepreneur, and operations leader whose work helped build the foundation for ESTEAM Learning Labs. Through Learning Fun 101, she spent years creating hands-on STEM and robotics experiences for children and families in Central Texas.
Her work continues to focus on program growth, partnerships, systems, expansion, and the development of Camp Mentor as part of the broader ESTEAM ecosystem.
Nicholle Walton-Durban
Co-Founder
Director, ESTEAM Academy
Nicholle Walton-Durban is an educational entrepreneur and creative leader whose work spans learner-driven education, coaching, school leadership, and community building. She helped shape ESTEAM Learning Labs through a vision that blends creativity, agency, and real-world learning.
In addition to her role with ESTEAM Academy, her work extends into broader educational initiatives, including Apollo Academy, the EmpowerU Method, and The FIRE Foundation.

Don’t see a location near you? We can customize a program to fit your schedule and your learners. Choose a full 5-day camp (9am–4pm), a one-day camp, a 3-hour workshop, an after-school series, or a free Maker event.
We believe kids learn best when they can explore at their own pace. Campers work in teams, and our instructors guide each group based on readiness—so no one is overwhelmed, everyone is challenged, and no one is bored.
